When I look toward the end of the basketball season and as we move onto spring. Personally the season had its ups and it's downs when you look at the year. Yes Bloomfield Hills and former Lake Orion student Dwayne Graves went to the State finals and eventually lost to Muskegon but his Blackhawks had a good season.
First let's start with the ladies. The Dragons finished 12-8 and 7-7 in the White in 2013-2014 but is riding a three game losing streak heading into the 2014-2015 season and included a bad loss in the pre district to Stoney Creek. Lake Orion loses two players from their senior class in Melanie Gagen and Nicole Krier. Krier was a play maker and always played her heart out. Gagen was a three point specialist. The Dragons will relay heavily on Evelyn Wischmeyer at small forward and Hannah Hamay looks to be the point guard next season. The problem with this team next season could be outside shooting, Krier and Gagen were outside shooters. The key will be Delaney Haan, if the Dragons can get a consistent inside threat from her then this team could be dangerous again next season. I think next season maybe the deepest team that coach Steve Roberts might have since 2008 and that team went to the State Semifinals that year.
The boys will lose a lot from a team that went 11-9 and 9-5 in the White lost a tough heartbreaker to Clarkston in the District Semifinals but had huge wins by beating Troy Athens twice, Oak Park with their transfers, Seaholm twice, and Groves. Lake Orion loses a lot of scoring and experience but this team led by John McCarty, David Henry, Nate Marcum, Zach Greene among others. The Dragons will be very young and inexperienced next season for coach Tom Risi but Joe Turnbull returns along with a strong JV team that went 18-2 in 2013-2014. It could be an interesting season next year.
We'll see what happens next season folks anyway enjoy the spring break.
