The Dragons Ladies Basketball Team off to a surprising start

Written Monday December 6th, at 9:22 AM

Early in the season, most experts wouldn't see the Lake Orion Girls Varsity Basketball team being 2-0 at this point, 1-1 would make sense to them.

Well they are 2-0 and 1-0 in the OAA Red.

The Dragons are 2-0, for this reason. On Tuesday night, opening night the Dragons had to comeback and beat Waterford Mott at Waterford in a wild game 44-42. During the game Orion had to survive not only Waterford Mott but the officiating as well, as they had some questionable calls in that game. After the Tuesday win the Dragons pulled off what is to be a shocking 33-24 victory over Pontiac at Lake Orion on Friday Night, it was the first time in two seasons that the Dragons have beat Pontiac (last win over Pontiac came against Pontiac Central two seasons ago, but a while against Pontiac Northern.)

The main reason why the Dragons are 2-0 is because of their defense, they have allowed on average 33 points per game in their two previous contests. Offensively the Dragons have scored on average of 38 points per game.

The OAA Red projected before the season started was 1. Southfield-Lathrup, 2. Pontiac, 3. Troy, 4. Troy Athens, 5. Stoney Creek, 6. Clarkston, 7. North Farmington, 8. Rochester, 9. Lake Orion.

The Dragons Freshman team is 0-1, after suffering a 42-20 loss to Oxford on Friday Night, while the Dragons Junior Varsity team defeated Waterford Mott 34-14 on Tuesday Night but lost to Pontiac 41-18 on Friday Night.

The Dragons next action is on Tuesday Night as the JV and Varsity teams will travel up the road to Livernois and Walton Roads and take on the Rochester Falcons (0-2, 0-2 OAA Red). The Falcons have lost their last two games, both were in league play, to Clarkston (48-31) and to North Farmington (48-26.) The Falcons are averaging 25 points per game offensively, while allowing 48 points per game in their last two games. On Thursday Night the Dragons will travel to Troy and take on the 2-0 (2-0 OAA Red) Colts. Troy is projected to finish third in the league, so this should be an interesting week for the ladies. GO GREEN.
