Dragons Spring Sports Update

Written Thursday May 1st, at 11:04 AM

When you look at spring you look at the great things going around Lake Orion from Baseball, Softball, Soccer, Tennis, Track, and Lacrosse.

So far the Lake Orion lady softball team is ranked third in the state and have a big one coming up on Wednesday against Clarkston and it's two top players. The Wolves and Troy Colts have been honorable mentions in the state and probably will be ranked sooner than later. The Dragons just recently blew out Troy Athens and their star pitcher Haley Zimmer. Lake Orion still has to play Troy coming up as well before district play starts with a pre-district game against a solid Waterford Kettering squad and then that winner will play Clarkston.

Baseball has been kind of a Jekyll and Hyde team lately but have had to rely on small ball. The Dragons swept Clarkston and right now hopefully can turn things around soon and still have games against. The sweep over the Wolves was a start to hopefully something interesting come late May when the districts start. Lake Orion also drew Waterford Kettering in the pre-district with that winner to face Clarkston in the district semifinals.

Boys track got a huge win over the week as they beat Clarkston 69-59 at Clarkston. Lake Orion won all four relays and got points in the 300 Hurdles. The Dragons have been without sprinter Cory Ester most of the season but are hopeful to get him back for leagues which start in two weeks at Rochester Adams. Lake Orion will have to deal with Rochester on Monday, then the league meet, and then the regional at Bloomfield Hills.

Girls track suffered it's first defeat of the season at the hands of Clarkston falling 81-47. What didn't help was the Dragons were without two of their top sprinters in that meet. The lady Dragons will have a tough match up with Rochester on Monday then the league at Rochester Adams, and then the regional at Bloomfield Hills.

Boys Lacrosse has been a struggle this season with the move from the White to the Red. Lake Orion has had to deal with playing the likes of Bloomfield Hills, Birmingham United, and Clarkston which is tough but the team has been able to pull through and hopefully the tough experience will get them ready for postseason play at Birmingham Seaholm.

Girls Lacrosse has been doing all right this season but the district at Hartland looks to be tough but so far they have had a solid season.

Girls Tennis has had a strong season as well and is looking forward to regional play coming up at Rochester High School with powerhouse Clarkston going to pose a serious challenge.

The Lake Orion girls soccer team has enjoyed being in the White this season. So far the team is unbeaten in league play. Lake Orion will play a tough non league game with Troy Athens before getting back into league play with a match at Clarkston. The Dragons still have to play North Farmington again at North Farmington and that one was a wild one at Lake Orion the last time they met. The Dragons will be in a tough district with Rochester, Rochester Adams, Stoney Creek, and Utica Eisenhower at Swienhart Field.

Well, we'll see what happens coming up with a district preview for both baseball and softball on the horizon folks.
