The test will come on Tuesday night for the Dragons when
they travel to Clarkston to take on the Wolves.
Clarkston is ranked third in the state coming into this
match but they did not have a good season last season losing the league and
district to Orion. Although the Dragons are different this season but most of
the girls who were on the team that beat the Wolves return.
Clarkston is led by Abbey Malanowski. Malanowski can play
anywhere for coach Kelly Averall-Pinner and recently committed to Michigan. She
was an all-state last season. The Wolves also have Sarah Austin back. She can
play anywhere and get kills for the Wolves. Clarkston also has the basketball
duo of Kayla Luchenbach and Molly Nicholson back as well.
The Wolves have the depth and talent to go at it with
anyone. They have won a few invitationals this season as well.
Thoughts.
Clarkston is looking for revenge in this matchup and this
will be the first meeting between these two rivals. The Wolves have owned the
series with the Dragons until last season when Orion beat
Clarkston in three
games at home and also at Waterford Kettering in the pre-district.
The outside hitters Austin and Malanowski present problems
for the Dragons but the inside present a huge problem for Clarkston. I don’t
think Luchenbach and Nicholson can matchup with the Orion inside game. Both teams have depth so this will be fun.
This will go five games no doubt with the Red crown on the
line. Expect fireworks in this one.
