A Chris Leigh Sighting was spotted in Rochester in a big Dragons victory

Written Saturday October 5th, at 1:35 AM

There was a Chris Leigh sighting on Friday night in Rochester.

Leigh scored four touchdowns on eight carries for 144 yards in a game that the Dragons desperately needed in a 41-20 win over the Falcons on Rochester’s Homecoming Night.

The Dragons had 421 rushing yards and 491 total yards for the whole game and did not need to complete a pass in the second half.

Corey Ester also decided to join in on the running back party. Ester had ten carries for 84 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 49 yards.

Lake Orion looked like a different team on offense after having seven tough quarters of football in the last two weeks started with a bang in form of a Zach Arnold 41 yard run to the Rochester seven yard line and two plays out Leigh was in the end zone from seven yards out for a 7-0 lead.

Rochester would answer on its next drive when quarterback Kevin Byrd found Demetrius Magee for a 61 yard slant pass to the Lake Orion 19 yard line. Two plays later the Falcons were in the end zone in the form of Vince Piancentti (95 yards rushing and a touchdown) from two yards out and the game was tied 7-7.

Leigh would then score his second touchdown of the night on a fourth and one and went 76 yards down the sideline, making a few guys miss and out rushing the Rochester defense into the end zone but the PAT try was no good and the Dragons led 13-7.

The Dragons would then respond again in the touchdown department in the form a passing touchdown where Connor Grant found Josh Bays in the back of the end zone from nine yards out. The two point try failed and the score remained 19-7 Lake Orion. The play was set up by Ester's punt return to the Rochester 18 yard line.

Rochester quarterback Kevin Byrd was 17 for 32 for 253 yards  threw a touchdown to Magee from 23 yards out on a ten play, 80 yard drive in the second quarter to make the score 19-14. The touchdown did have some controversy on a questionable touchdown pass which saw Byrd come out of the pocket and then back in according to the officials the touchdown was allowed to stand. Magee finished with five catches for 120 yards and a touchdown in the game.

The Falcons would take advantage of an Arnold fumble recovered by Magee but the Dragons defense came out and rose to the occasion. Rochester's Luke Deel kicked a 24 yard field goal making the score 19-17 at the half. Arnold would finish the game with five carries for 70 yards for Lake Orion.

Lake Orion would then stop Rochester on the ten yard line forcing Byrd to punt the ball to the Falcons 30 yard line and a few plays later Leigh was in the end zone for his third touchdown of the night scoring from 29 yards out making the score 26-17 Dragons.

The Falcons responded by going down the field thanks to some big runs and a couple of passes from Byrd to Magee. Rochester would get a 32 yard field goal from Deel to make the score 26-20 Dragons heading to the fourth quarter.

In the last two weeks Lake Orion has been outscoring opponents 49-0 in the fourth quarter showed why they have been a good fourth quarter team in the form of Matt Krause and Cory Ester. Ester would then have a two yard touchdown run and a two point conversion to Bays to make the score 34-20 Dragons.

Rochester coach Eric Vernon decided instead of going for it on fourth and two punted the ball back to Lake Orion opting to play field position and hoping his defense would stop the Dragons offense and their superior speed. The Falcons got that fumble with an Ester fumble but Rochester started to have some trouble of their own against the Lake Orion defense where they are getting pressured and hurried all night.

Vernon decided to punt the football yet again but the Dragons were ready for it and eventually went three and out. Rochester got the ball again but the Lake Orion defense showed its will and got the Falcons to turn the ball over on downs. The next play Leigh took the ball 23 yards to the end zone making the score 41-20 on the night.

Lake Orion moves to 5-1 and 4-1 in Red play on the season while Rochester drops to 3-3, and 2-3 in the Red. The Dragons will host Pontiac (0-6, 0-5) on homecoming on Friday night and is one win away from returning to the playoffs. We’ll see what happens there.
