Dragons clobber Phoenix on Homecoming Night. Await Wolves Next.

Written Saturday October 12th, at 12:15 AM

The Lake Orion Dragons came into Homecoming nights (if you count Saturday) knowing that they needed one win to make the playoffs.

The Pontiac Phoenix was the perfect opponent for the Dragons.

The Phoenix came into this game with a 0-6 record and left Lake Orion with a 0-7 record. Pontiac was no match for the Dragons in a 62-13 rout. The win sent Lake Orion to its 13th consecutive playoff berth.

Lake Orion used its balance offense and a 28 point first quarter to start the game. The Dragons scored on their first drive when Dominic Giovinnazzo scored from 70 yards out down the left sideline for a 7-0 lead.

The Dragons then got a fumble on Pontiac’s first drive on the Lake Orion 48 yard line. Few plays later Lake Orion was in the end zone again as Connor Grant passed to Zach Greene for a 15 yard touchdown and the Dragons were up 14-0.

Pontiac was then stopped on a fourth down and then the Dragons got the football back. A few plays later Giovinnazzo was in the end zone again, from 17 yards untouched for a 21-0 lead.

The Phoenix then had to punt the ball and the Dragons were yet on offense again and a few plays later they were in the end zone again as Chris Leigh scored from ten yards out for a 28-0 lead in the first quarter.

Pontiac was driving down to the Lake Orion 45 yard line and then threw an interception to Drew Casey. Casey then took the football 70 yards for a Dragons touchdown making the score 35-0.

Matt Krause would put a finish to the first half with a two yard touchdown run making the score 42-0 Dragons at the half.

In the third quarter the Dragons put in the backups and reserves and Lake Orion would get more scoring from them in the form of  Zach Serzo whom took the ball ten yards out for a touchdown making the score 49-0.
Pontiac would get on the board as the Phoenix went down the field and Jalin Nealy scored from five yards out on a running play making the score 49-7 Lake Orion.

Lake Orion would answer the Nealy touchdown with a touchdown in the form of Justin Pavalisak. Pavalisak scored a touchdown from 28 yards out and moving it past three Phoenix defenders to the end zone to make the score 55-7 Dragons.

Nealy would add one more touchdown to his resume making the score 55-13 and that would be the final score right???

Wrong.

Lake Orion’s Jabrini Long, arguably the shortest guy on the team grabbed a handoff and went pass multiple defenders for a 63 yard touchdown run. The touchdown run made the Dragons sideline explode like crazy making the score 62-13 and ended the scoring for the night.

Giovinnazo finished the night with 95 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Grant went six for nine for 121 yards and a touchdown pass to Greene. Ester had one catch for 25 yards. Zach Arnold had two touchdowns and a long run called back due to penalties.

The Dragons are now 6-1 and 5-1 in the Red on the season now have to travel to Clarkston 6-1, 6-0 Red to face the Wolves who are clicking on all cylinders right now with a share of the Red at stake. That kickoff is set for 7 PM Friday night. We’ll see what happens then.
