Eriksen's big night leads Wolves over Dragons

Written Saturday October 19th, at 12:05 AM

No one saw this coming Friday night at Clarkston.

Wolves running back Ian Eriksen who is going to Eastern Michigan next season did something that even Oxford running back Prescott Line could not do against the Lake Orion defense.

Score six touchdowns.

Eriksen ran for 234 yards and scored six touchdowns in the Wolves 49-28 victory over the Dragons at Clarkston. In the process he became the first running back since Prescott Line in 2011 to run over 200 yards and over five touchdowns.

This is Clarkston’s third Red title in three seasons and it’s possible that these two teams could meet again in the playoffs.

The Lake Orion defense was just awful tonight, nine possessions by Clarkston and seven touchdowns. They could not stop the read option all night either. This was the most points the Dragons allowed against one opponent since 1993.

Clarkston scored first on an Eriksen one yard touchdown for a 7-0 lead.

Lake Orion answered on a Connor Grant 15 yard touchdown pass to Chris Leigh to tie it up 7-7.

The Wolves would respond again with another Eriksen touchdown from seven yards out making the score 14-7 Clarkston.

Clarkston’s defense made a stop on Lake Orion’s next possession forcing the Dragons to turn the ball over on downs. The Lake Orion defense could not stop DJ Zezula either on the ground or in the air. Zezula already with over 100 yards on the ground from the quarterback keeper and option was in the end zone for a 21-7 lead in the second quarter.

The Dragons responded late in the second quarter with a 17 yard touchdown pass from Grant to Corey Ester to make it 21-14 Clarkston.

The Wolves had one more opportunity to score heading into the half but could not after Kent State recruit Shayne Hynes missed a 29 yard field goal to close the half keeping it at 21-14 Clarkston.

The second half the Wolves got the ball and on a 3rd and 20 the Dragons defense could not get off the field as Zezula connected with Eriksen and he took four defenders with him for a first down for 38 yards. A few plays later Eriksen was in the end zone for another 38 yards making the score 28-14 Wolves.

Lake Orion did not give up and they went down and scored again when Grant connected for his third touchdown of the night when he found Ester yet again for a 17 yard touchdown reception making the score 28-21 Clarkston.
The Dragons then opened up their bag of tricks. They would recover an onside kick and a few plays later Leigh was in the end zone from 44 yards out outrunning Purdue recruit Tim Cason making the score 28-28.

Clarkston responded by a 24 yard touchdown run by Eriksen that made the score 35-28 Wolves.

The Wolves defense responded two more times in the fourth quarter in the span of Eriksen scoring two more touchdowns from 64 and 41 yards out respectably making the final score 49-28 Clarkston.

Ester had 120 all purpose yards and Leigh had 116 all purpose yards in the loss. Grant threw for three touchdowns but two interceptions.

The Dragons fall to 6-2, 5-2 in the Red while the Wolves go to 7-1, 7-0 in the Red. Lake Orion will play Oak Park (5-3, 4-3 White) in the crossover after the Knights lost 20-18 to Oxford in Knight Valley next Friday. Clarkston plays Southfield (7-1, 7-0 White) for their crossover opponent next Friday.
