Dragons Hammer Titans, await Eagles next

Written Saturday October 27th, at 1:42 AM

Friday night would prove to be no repeat of the 2008 Regional Finals at Runkel Field.

Lake Orion won that game 38-36.

Tonight wasn’t even close.

The Dragons defense dominated the Titans in rout to a 35-0 win at Lake Orion in the district semifinals, setting up the stage for a huge district final showdown with Utica Eisenhower on Friday night at Lake Orion.

The Dragons defense held Stevenson to just 139 total yards throughout the night.

Running back Dominick Giovinnazzo started the Dragons scoring early on it’s second drive from scrimmage. Lake Orion converted on two fourth down conversions on a 18 play 72 yard drive with Giovinnazzo scoring from six yards out making the score 7-0 Dragons.

Lake Orion struggled on offense early but then started to click. Derrick DeLaura connected with Chaz Miller on a 65 yard touchdown pass to make it 14-0 Orion.

Then Zach Arnold connected on a 50 yard touchdown down the middle of the field making the score 21-0.

DeLaura wasn’t done yet, he found Miller for a 22 yard pitch and catch making the score 28-0 Orion late in the second quarter.

To wrap up the scoring DeLaura found Chris Leigh on a seven yard swing pass making the score 35-0 Dragons and the running clock went into effect.

DeLaura was six for seven passing for 224 yards and three touchdowns. Miller had two touchdowns on 82 receiving yards. Leigh had a touchdown and 10 yards. Arnold had 70 yards and a touchdown. Jacob Miller had 12 carries and 46 yards. Cory Ester had eight carries for 59 yards for the Dragons.

Lake Orion is now 9-1 on the year and will take on a familiar foe in the Utica Eisenhower Eagles (8-2) on Friday night at 7:00 PM. Two seasons ago the Dragons defeated the Eagles 17-10 in the regional finals. Lake Orion beat Utica Eisenhower 7-0 in the district semifinals four seasons ago. We’ll see what happens on Friday night in Orion.
