Volleyball District Preview and Projections at Romeo

Written Sunday October 28th, at 7:25 PM

This is the 2012 Girls Volleyball districts start on Monday. Lake Orion is in a district where it will be hailed at Romeo High School. The Dragons are paired with Clarkston, Rochester Adams, Oxford, and Romeo. The fun starts on Tuesday as the second ranked Clarkston Wolves take on the Rochester Adams Highlanders. The district semifinals will feature the eighth ranked Lake Orion Dragons taking on the Oxford Wildcats and also the winner of the Clarkston/Adams match will go against the home team the Romeo Bulldogs on Thursday. The district finals will be on Saturday morning at 11 AM in Romeo. Here are the picks for the district.

CLARKSTON VS ADAMS: Tuesday at 6 PM: The Wolves and Highlanders met at Adams with Clarkston winning in three games. Adams is much improved then they were early in the season. Clarkston is well Clarkston. The Wolves will move on easily over the Highlanders and focus on Romeo. PICK: CLARKSTON IN THREE GAMES

LAKE ORION VS OXFORD: Thursday at 5:30 PM: The Dragons and Wildcats met at Ian Smith Gym with Lake Orion winning in three games. It wouldn’t surprise me if this match up goes three games but it likely won’t and the focus will shift to either the Clarkston or Romeo winner. PICK: LAKE ORION IN THREE GAMES.

CLARKSTON VS ROMEO: Thursday at 7:00 PM: The Bulldogs will likely have a hostile crowd for the Wolves in this match. I think the crowd will get to Clarkston early and give energy to Romeo but it won’t be enough to beat Clarkston. I think the Bulldogs will take a game because of the hostile Bulldogs crowd but not the match. PICK: CLARKSTON IN FOUR GAMES.

LAKE ORION VS CLARKSTON: Saturday at 11:00 AM: This will be a rematch of the state semifinals last season and a hard fought five game thriller at Clarkston. Lake Orion and Clarkston are ranked in the state (Clarkston: two, Lake Orion: eighth.) I have a strange feeling that this will be very similar to last season when the Wolves beat the Dragons in the regular season but the Dragons eliminated the Wolves in the state semifinals. The key is injuries and pure adrenaline. Both teams will be at full strength and motivated for this one. The difference will be is that Lake Orion will be healthy enough to get this one in another wild and crazy match. PICK: LAKE ORION IN FIVE GAMES.
