Lake Orion vs Oxford: Volleyball Preview

Written Monday October 15th, at 2:35 PM

The Dragons volleyball team had a good run winning some matches until meeting Macomb Dakota in the Beast of the East tournament where they lost yet another match to Macomb Dakota, in front of the hostile Cougars crowd in Warren. Currently the Dragons are 1-4 this season against the Cougars, that has to change if they want to go deep into the playoffs.

This Tuesday night Lake Orion will travel to Ian Smith Gym to play the Oxford Wildcats. This will be the first meeting of the season for both teams in the regular season and these teams will meet in the districts at Romeo in November.

The Wildcats feature Darien Bandell, a junior who is Oxford’s outside hitter and is a very good finisher. Bandell is Oxford’s best player when it comes to leadership but the Wildcats do have other good players and talent that can help her out for a supporting cast.

The Dragons meanwhile should be motivated. The Red is still in play if they can win this match up. If Lake Orion does win this match up then it sets up the big showdown with Clarkston on Thursday on the road.

PROJECTION: Oxford has Bandell who will get her fair share of kills but the Dragons have too much depth and balance. Officially the countdown is on to Clarkston for the biggest volleyball match of the season that will decide the Red. PICK: LAKE ORION IN THREE.
