West Bloomfield Scouting Report

Written Wednesday September 11th, at 8:50 AM

The West Bloomfield Lakers are an improved team coming into Friday's game with the Dragons at 1-1 and 0-1 in the Red. The Lakers beat Jackson 39-12 in week one but lost quarterback Tristion Jackson to injury in last week's 41-18 loss to Clarkston.

The Lakers are a spread team and are an improved team with athletes around the field and some size. They like to spread the ball a lot and also create problems for opposing cornerbacks. The defense is an 4-3 look.

West Bloomfield's quarterback is Robert Powell. Powell is a mobile and pocket passer at quarterback. He only completed five of ten for 106 yards and a touchdown at Jackson two weeks ago but struggled against Clarkston. Also the Lakers have Jackson but he is uncertain if he is going to go in the game.

The Lakers top running back is  Navon Mosley. Mosley had a 27 yard touchdown run against Jackson and was huge against Clarkston early with a touchdown run but that was all the Lakers could muster against a very good Wolves defense. West Bloomfield will also have senior running back Chris Watkins- Williams whom along with Mosley can add depth as well from the backfield.

The Lakers top wide receiver is Michael King. King was huge weapon against Jackson whom caught a 68 yard touchdown pass from Powell in the game against Jackson. They also will have wide receiver/defensive back Obbie Jackson as well.

West Bloomfield's best defender is wide receiver and defensive back Brighton Utaegbu. He caught a touchdown on offense and also picked off a pass for a 46 yard touchdown and had a fumble recovery against Jackson

The Lakers have some depth concerns and also they are also very young and inexperienced. Coach Ronald Bellamy hopes that the year of experience should help his team and that playing Clarkston helps as well.

We will see what happens when the Lakers come to Lake Orion to play the Dragons. It will be the second powerhouse the Lakers have played since they lost at home to Clarkston. The Dragons better be careful not to look ahead to next week's road test in Rochester against Stoney Creek.
