Tweet Motivates Dragons over Warriors.

Written Friday September 23rd at 11:25 PM

In the world of Twitter, be very careful what you post because sometimes they come back to haunt you.

Southfield Arts and Tech quarterback Sam Johnson III sent out a tweet on Thursday night that gave the Dragons all the motivation they needed on Friday afternoon at Southfield Arts and Tech.

The tweet from Johnson III said “They just don’t know sorry in advance Lake Orion.”

The tweet ended up motivating Orion and the Dragons would get a hard earned 21-14 win over the Warriors sending a message that they are here and ready to play.

The Dragons started the scoring early when Dylan Frank scored on Orion’s first possession from scrimmage when he rushed 15 yards out but the kick was mishandled for a 6-0 lead.

Orion would then get a turnover on downs from it’s defense. The Dragons on their second drive from scrimmage went 60 yards leading to a Chris Wilson six-yard rushing score and converted a two-point conversion for a 14-0 Orion lead.

The Warriors would answer in the form of Author Nichols whom took the football 33 yards for a Southfield Arts and Tech score but the PAT was blocked leaving the score 14-6 Dragons.

Orion would then respond as Frank went through the entire Warriors defense and plowed his way into the endzone from 21 yards out and a 21-6 lead.

The game would be a back and forth tussle with both Orion and Southfield Arts and Tech’s defenses being stout.

In the fourth quarter the Warriors scored led by Syracuse bound running back Eric McArn from 35 yards out and the two point try from McArn was good for a 21-14 Orion lead.

The Dragons tried to run out the clock in the fourth quarter but the Warriors got another opportunity to tie the game but it was the Orion defense came up huge again. This was the same defense that had three fourth down stops, two fumble recoveries, and six three and outs that stopped Johnson III and the Southfield Arts and Tech offense keeping the score 21-14 Dragons.

Orion’s Tyler Vesterand got a huge first down near the 20-yard line to close the game out and give the Dragons the stunning victory over the Warriors. Orion also took advantage of Southfield Arts and Tech's mistakes especially discipline throughout as the Warriors got a bit of personal foul calls in the game. Wilson finished with 22 carries for 184 yards and a touchdown while Frank had ten carries for 36 yards and two touchdowns.

During the game the Southfield Arts and Tech students and fans wore pink in honor of Kara Allen. They had balloons dedicated in her memory at halftime. The Orion cheerleaders wore pink and gave the Warriors cheerleaders flowers. Allen along her three siblings, one of them was a Southfield graduate was murdered by her step-father on Tuesday night in Dearborn. The step-father is facing first degree murder charges for the deaths. She was a senior, a cheerleader, and football manager for Southfield Arts and Tech.

The Dragons are now 3-2, 3-1 in the Red on the season and will travel to Troy Athens for a match with the Red Hawks. It was Troy Athens that upset Orion 21-14 last season at Orion so this should be interesting.
