OAA Recap Week Six.

Written Saturday October 5th, at 1:36 AM

1. Clarkston
2. Southfield
3. Lake Orion
4. Harrison
5. Stoney Creek
6. Oak Park
7. Seaholm
8. Groves
9. Adams
10. North Farmington

BIG WIN: Southfield: The Blue Jays went into Oxford and just shut them out 21-0. Southfield dominated against a very good Wildcats offense and controlled tempo from start to finish. The Blue Jays will be on their way to the playoffs while the Wildcats must win out and hope the teams they lost to get them more playoff points just to get a slim hope at 5-4.

TOUGH LOSS: Rochester: The Falcons are a very good football team and were only down 19-17 at halftime to Lake Orion. Only to see the Dragons outscore the Falcons 22-3 in the second half on rout to a 41-20 victory on Rochester’s homecoming for Lake Orion. The Falcons have a tough stretch to close out the season with home games against Stoney Creek and Adams.

MOST DISSAPOINTED: Avondale: The Yellow Jackets have now lost four of five games and tonight might have been the final nail on the camels back. Avondale lost 35-14 and are likely to miss out on the playoffs despite having a soft schedule to close out the season with games against Ypsilanti, Hazel Park, and Ferndale.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME: Troy: The Colts had Lake Orion tied at 17-17 in the third quarter last week at Ford Field and to see them get just crushed 41-7 at West Bloomfield on their homecoming might add is something shocking to see. The Lakers are now in the mist of a playoff chase and have a big game with Stoney Creek at home next week. If West Bloomfield can win over the Cougars then they have to still beat Pontiac and the crossover to get that shot into the playoffs. Troy whom likely will miss the playoffs has to play Clarkston on their homecoming next week, talk about bummer.

Big Games for Week Seven:

6. Oak Park at 4. Harrison: In a game that will determine second place in the White both the Knights and Hawks have had big wins during league play and the non league season but Oak Park has won all five of its games on the road while Harrison has benefited with a nice home schedule. Something has to give here in this game. Both teams have great running backs (Oak Park-John Kelly, Harrison-Lorenzo Collins) and will be a force to be a recon with in the playoffs.

9. Adams at 2. Southfield: The Blue Jays are just rolling right now, and after a 21-0 win over Oxford, Southfield returns home for their homecoming against an Adams team that is not doing too bad themselves in winning two in a row after a 2-2 start and add that they did beat Clarkston week one. The Highlanders will  not have quarterback Matt Sokol as he got hurt in the Farmington game last week. Sokol broke his leg and dislocated his ankle and is out for the season. Adams will have his hands full against a very good Blue Jays team with or without Sokol it may not look good. If Sokol is out a long period of time the Highlanders are in deep trouble.

5. Stoney Creek at West Bloomfield: The last time Stoney Creek and West Bloomfield played each other a fight ensued and a Lakers player was arrested for punching Stoney Creek assistant coach Buzz Zube (father of head coach Brad Zube) in Rochester. Now in a major game with playoff implications for the Lakers and their team, West Bloomfield Coach Ronald Bellmany better have his kids focused and emotions in check against a very good Cougars team. Stoney Creek still has to play Rochester and the crossover for tough games and if West Bloomfield can get this game then the dreams of making the playoffs could be very real.

Berkley at 8. Groves: The Bears have won two in a row including an upset victory over Avondale two weeks ago. This is a trap game for the Falcons considering that they do play at Birmingham Seaholm next week in Birmingham. Berkley has been playing much better as of late and if they can get this game then their path to the playoffs is crystal clear for Groves is just being undefeated for another week.

Other Games Around the State:

I was shocked that Romeo beat Port Huron 38-27. The Bulldogs are now 3-3 on the season and has to beat Utica Eisenhower just to get into the playoffs. You can pretty much guarantee wins over Anchor Bay and Utica Ford. The game they need is at Swienhart Field, if they get that one. Anything is possible.

I look at Lowell and they had to survive East Grand Rapids 42-39 in four overtimes. This is a big win for the Red Arrows who already have wins over Muskegon and River Rouge. Lowell still has to play Caledonia and Grand Rapids Christian both at home. East Grand Rapids is 3-3 and has to beat Caledonia if they want to get a shot at returning to the playoffs this season but the division in the Ottawa-Kent White division might take care of itself out with these teams.

It looks like Traverse City West might not make the playoffs after all. The Titans lost to Grand Rapids Comstock Park 24-16 tonight. Comstock Park is 6-0 on the season. Traverse City West is 4-2 on the season and still has to play Big North power Cadillac this week who is undefeated, on the road and hosts Allendale who is 5-1 on the season, tough break there.

The other Traverse City team is as well in a world of hurt in Traverse City Central. The Trojans were beaten by Petoskey in overtime 42-37 now stand at 3-3 on the season. The schedule is nightmarish for Traverse City Central to close out the season. The Titans host Ogemaw Heights who is 4-2 on the season and unbeaten Cadillac comes to Traverse City’s shared field. The Trojans losses were to Marquette, Traverse City West, and Petoskey.

Special congrats to Lincoln Park who snapped a 66 game losing streak by beating Taylor Kennedy 34-20 at Taylor Kennedy.

Lansing Holt is back on the playoff bubble after just getting crushed by a very good Lansing Sexton team 48-7 last week. The Rams have three games remaining including a game with Grand Ledge who is 3-3. Holt needs to win out just to make the playoffs this season but they could still get in at 5-4 if the teams that beat them win out and they have had some tough losses to very good teams this season in Hudsonville, Rockford, and Lansing Sexton.

East Lansing took a hit when the Trojans lost to Lansing Everett 25-17. East Lansing must beat unbeaten Lansing Sexton just to make the playoffs this season. The loss to Grand Haven is absolutely killing the Trojans right now as we speak.

The Holly Bronchos took a tough loss to Lapeer West in Lapeer 18-15. The Bronchos are 3-3 needing to win out just to make the playoffs. The schedule is favorable with games against Ortonville Brandon and Lapeer East but the game they need is this week’s game with Eaton Rapids. If they get that game then they could be back in contention for a playoff spot.

The Brighton Bulldogs could be back into the playoffs after beating Hartland 49-33. The Bulldogs are 4-2 on the season and still needs to win two of its remaining three games to make the playoffs. Brighton has to play Howell next week, the crossover game with the KLAA North, which could be either Walled Lake Northern or Waterford Kettering in two weeks, and Birmingham Detroit Country Day in three weeks so I wouldn’t be celebrating too early now if you’re a Bulldogs fan.

Well we'll see you all next week.
