Orion freshman Danielle Sargent has had her ups and downs
this season but being the new girl on the block means something, something
strong.
Sargent was huge especially in games one and two against
fifth ranked Birmingham Seaholm on Tuesday night as she had 17 kills as the
seventh ranked Dragons got a bit of revenge after last season’s horrible loss
in Birmingham with a 25-15, 25-16,
19-25, 26-24 victory Tuesday night.
This game featured two teams that had been winning tournaments
lately and ranked in the Michigan High School Volleyball Coach's Association poll, Seaholm won three of them (Macomb Dakota, Novi ,
and Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes) while Orion has won two of them this
season (Flushing and Portage Central.)
Hannah Murdock led Orion with 20 kills, Marley Redd had six
kills, and Kory Varney had 25 digs.
After dominating the first two games, Orion (29-4-2, 2-0
Red) started to play tight while Seaholm coach Heather Lippert said that her
team wasn’t having fun and not playing loose.
When the third game started, the Maples played loose and were
having fun.
Led by Annie Schecther who had 18 kills and 16 digs, Seaholm
took control, led 10-3 in the third game.
The fourth game was crazy, the Dragons dominated first then
the Maples went on a run and with the score tied 22-22 it became a battle back
and fourth.
Madison Martin played an inspired game with a blister on her
hand with 41 digs while Paige Zywick had 16 assists.
Seaholm’s (26-7-2 ,
0-2 Red) loss pretty much takes them out of the Red race, considering that
their other league loss was to Clarkston in four games.
Orion will face fourth ranked Clarkston next Thursday at
Clarkston but first will host Bloomfield Hills on Monday at Orion.
