OAA Recap: Week Five.

Written Saturday September 27th, at 11:00 PM

Dragons Den Top 10:

1. Clarkston
2. Oak Park
3. West Bloomfield
4. Harrison
5. Groves
6. Berkley
7. Southfield
8. Oxford
9. Farmington
10. Stoney Creek

WIN OF THE NIGHT: Ferndale 34, Lathrup 26: The Eagles got a huge win and could be back in the playoff race. This is a tough loss for the Chargers and playoffs don't look good. Ferndale has now won two games and if they win out then this team could be a force to be a recon with.

TOUGH LOSS: Harrison 34, Southfield 27 (3 O/T): The Jays were in the game until the very end against the Hawks. They forced overtime and went toe to toe with Harrison but this was a tough one for Southfield. The road team in this series has won four of the last five meetings in this rivalry.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME: West Bloomfield 39, Lake Orion 0: The Dragons looked awful on Friday night against a very good Lakers team but not to score a point for the first time since 2003, lose on homecoming for the first time since 2000, worse loss since 1998 when Rockford beat Orion 48-7 in the state semifinals. Orion will likely miss the playoffs for the first time since 2000. This could be one of the worst Dragons teams in Lake Orion history.

TEAM THAT NEEDS A HUG: Avondale: The Yellow Jackets for the second straight season lost a heart-breaker to the Bears except this time it was in double overtime. Last year it was 34-31, this year it was 21-20. Berkley is in good shape to make the playoffs. Avondale is as well but a tough road will await both of these teams.

Last Week Games:
1. Clarkston 42, 8. Oxford 14
2. Oak Park 34, Adams 10
3. West Bloomfield 39, Orion 0
4. Harrison 34, 7. Southfield 27 (2 O/T)
5. Groves 62, Hazel Park 0
6. Berkley 21, Avondale 20 (3 O/T)
9. Farmington 56, Pontiac 13
10. Stoney Creek 9, Troy 0
Bloomfield Hills 37, Troy Athens 35
Ferndale 34, Lathrup 26
North Farmington 35, Royal Oak 7
Seaholm 41, Rochester 14

This Week Games:
1. Clarkston at Troy Athens
Bloomfield Hills at 3. West Bloomfield
Orion at 10. Stoney Creek
8. Oxford at Troy
2. Oak Park at North Farmington
Adams at 4. Harrison
Rochester at Royal Oak
7. Southfield at Seaholm
Avondale at 5. Groves
6. Berkley at 9. Farmington
Pontiac at Ferndale
Lathrup at Hazel Park

Top Games Next Week:

6. Berkley at 9. Farmington: The Bears ride a strong defense into Farmington to take on a Falcons team loaded with athletes. Berkley’s defense will give Farmington problems. Farmington’s athleticism will give Berkley problems. The Falcons have played a tougher schedule than the Bears and it could very well be the difference.

Avondale at 5. Groves: This is a revenge match for the Yellow Jackets after what happened last season in Beverly Hills. This will be the first major test for the Falcons since Seaholm. Avondale will be motivated for this one. Groves will be ready as well.

7. Southfield at Seaholm: This is a rematch of last season’s 14-13 shocking win by the Maples over the Blue Jays. Southfield is also furious after losing in triple overtime last week to Harrison. These two teams are different and that's key.

Adams at 4. Harrison: The Highlanders are on life support as well, the Stoney Creek loss is hurting Adams right now. The Hawks had a huge win over Southfield in triple overtime last week. Harrison is riding high with confidence right now.

Orion at 10. Stoney Creek: The Dragons are on life support after getting destroyed 39-0 by West Bloomfield at home last week. Lake Orion lost 36-7 last season at Stoney Creek. The Cougars feature one of the best defenses in the league and could end the Dragons playoff hopes this week.

We'll see what happens folks.
