Matt Krause has been a machine in the last two weeks.
Last week against Chippewa Valley he had 410 yards and four touchdowns. On Saturday against Troy Athens he pretty much had a similar outcome with 335 yards and four touchdowns in the Dragons 35-22 victory in northern Troy.
Krause right now is the state’s top running back statically, having over 700 rushing yards and eight touchdowns.
Troy Athens (1-1, 0-1 Red) would strike first on Friday when quarterback Alex Mussat passed the ball to Jake Vincent who made two Lake Orion defenders miss for a five yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead.
Then the severe storms came causing the game to go to Saturday.
Lake Orion (1-1, 1-0 Red) running back Keith Fields would get his team on the board scoring on a jet sweep from nine yards making the score 7-7.
After getting a stop on defense it was Krause who struck going 70 yards on a toss sweep making the score 14-7 Dragons.
The Red Hawks would strike as Mussat ran a quarterback sneak from one yard out making the score 14-14.
Lake Orion would have a chance to take the lead late but Krause fumbled the ball at the Troy Athens six yard line keeping the score 14-14 at halftime.
The Dragons suspect defense came to play a bit by stopping the Red Hawks spread attack and would give the ball back to the offense. Three plays later Krause struck again going 75 yards and a 21-14 lead for his team.
Lake Orion would get another stop yet again and then Krause struck again from 27 yards out making the score 28-14 Dragons.
The Red Hawks struggled getting it together a bit and the Dragons made them pay as Krause scored his fourth touchdown making the score 35-14 Lake Orion.
Troy Athens would add one more touchdown as Mussat found Derrick Nelson for a nine yard touchdown pass and a two point conversion pass from Mussat to Nick Vandekerkhoff making the score 35-22.
Musatt would finish 22 for 42 for 184 yards, two touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown for the Red Hawks. Cameron Kotsich was two for two passing for 85 yards for the Dragons.
Lake Orion is 22-1 now all time against the Red Hawks and have won 14 straight games.
The Dragons will finally have a home game this week as they take on the Troy Colts (0-2, 0-1 Red.) The Colts lost 42-0 to West Bloomfield and 7-3 two weeks ago to Sterling Heights Stevenson.
We’ll see what happens.
